GSI AGM ~ May 25, 2008
Congratulations to Isabel Piper, Kevin Piper
and Kerryn Katal awarded Life Membership to Gippsland Swimming at the GSI AGM
held at the Latrobe Convention Centre. Isobel is a former Recorder,
Entries Officer, Announcer and organiser of the Bill Sweetenham development
clinics over many years. Kevin had been the Records Officer from 1996 to 2007
and was the first Web Site Manager for Gippsland. Kerryn worked as the GSI
Recorder for 9 years between 1994 and 2004 during the time that the SAT timing
and computerised results were introduced. She has been the GSI Vice President
since 2004. President Jackie Madden presented the new Life Members with
framed certificates to commemorate the honour.

Awards

Congratulations to Jeremy Meyer of Traralgon: winner of the Tim Forsyth Trophy for excellence through the Gippsland Academy of Sport. Jeremy's gold and silver medals at the National Age Championships and his inclusion in the Australian team bound for Mexico in July for the World Youth Championships set him apart from Gippsland's elite sportspeople. Gippsland Swimmers
excel at National Age
Four Gippsland swimmers won individual
medals, and two more added Relay medals at the National Age Championships in
Brisbane.
Traralgon Swimming Club swimmers won 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze medals; 2
Victorian records, broke 12 Country records, 23 Out of Gippsland records and had one of
its swimmers selected as part of the Australian team to compete in Mexico in
July. story
As well, 13 year old Samantha Wilkins
from SGB won silver in the 13 & Under 200IM and bronze in the 13 & Under 100m
butterfly. Well done to all 12 Gippsland swimmers who competed at Age
National.

Ashley Delaney at Open Nationals

Ash Delaney - former Sale and
Traralgon swimmer has been selected for the Olympic
team.
Ashley broke Matt Welsh's Australian Record in winning the 100m Backstroke
(53.68) at the Australian Championships and followed that with a 2nd in
the 200m and another win (and Australian record) in the 50m event.
Ash, who now trains at
the AIS, will swim in the 100m, 200m and the 4 x 100m relay in Beijing.
Well done Ash; you ARE a legend!

Ash shown here at the Nunawading Presentation Night with special invited guests, Brian Ford and Rob Moore. Both Brian and Rob have been influential in Ashley's swimming career. Ash was flown to Melbourne by the Nunawading Club for the night.

Samantha Wilkins (SGB) and Jeremy Saunders (TGN) were named Age Group Swimmers of the meet at State Championships. For Jeremy this was the 6th year in a row that he has won this distinction. Samantha was also named Best Female Swimmer of the Age Championships
