SELECTION PROCESS FOR
2010 COUNTRY 7 – 10 ENCOURAGEMENT COMPETITION
(Saturday, 13th November 2010)
AND
2011 COUNTRY INTER DISTRICT COMPETITION
(Saturday, 26th February 2011)
TEAMS AND SELECTION PROCESS
Each year our District send two representative teams to the Country Competitions listed above: the 7 – 10 Encouragement Competition held on Saturday, 13th November 2010, and the Inter District Competition held on Saturday, 26th February 2011.
These teams are chosen by the GSI Program and Selection Committee using a database of times collected from local and other swim meets.
DATABASE OF TIMES
Parents and swimmers are encouraged to check the District database links above to ensure swimmer’s best times are noted. If swimmers wish to use times outside those collected by the Program and Selection Committee it will be the swimmer’s responsibility to supply the Program and Selection Committee with proof of times achieved. These results must be in a Team Manager or Meet Manager file, links to clubs websites or email copy of PDF or Word document file. These results must be from qualifying meets and must be verifiable.

TEAMS FOR MEETS
Each District is allowed to enter a maximum of six swimmers per individual event at the Country 7 – 10 Encouragement Meet. These events include each stroke (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly) over a 50 metre distance. Age groups for boys and girls are 7, 8, 9 & 10 years. Children under the age of seven are not eligible to enter.
Each District is also permitted to enter one Freestyle Relay team for boys and girls in the age groups 10/under, 9/under, 8/under & 7years. Medley Relay teams for both boys and girls are entered in the age groups 10/under, 9/under and mixed 7/8years.
The Country Inter District Competition only allows for one representative from the District to compete in each individual event. Male and Female 10 & under and 17 & over events consist of each stroke over 50 metres. Male and Female events in the age groups 11/12, 13/14 years and 15/16 years are swum over 100 metres in each stroke. One team is entered in each of the Freestyle and Medley Relays which are swum over 200 metres (4 x 50m) for male and female age groups 10 & under, 11/12, 13/14, 15/16 and 17 & over. One team is also entered in the Open Freestyle and Medley Relays which are swum over 400 metres (4 x 100m).
Availability Forms are available from the link above. These can be filled out and sent to the Program & Selection Committee at any stage if the swimmer knows of their availability in advance, regardless of whether their names appears in the Top 10 listings. On this form swimmers will be asked for their Polo shirt size & bus pick up point (Inter District team only).
When the team has been finalised a letter will be sent to successful swimmers confirming their selection in the team. At this stage swimmers will also be asked to complete a Medical Form (Inter District team only). The Medical Form will need to be handed to the Team Managers on the day of competition.
The number of swims by an individual swimmer may be limited at the discretion of the Program and Selection Committee.
Team Managers and Captains for both the 7-10 and Inter District Team will be selected by the Program and Selection Committee. In the case of the Inter District Team it would be expected that these selected Captains and Team Managers travel on the bus to and from the competition (except in extreme circumstances).
All National, official Swimming Victoria (shaded Yellow/Green on the Swimming Victoria Events Calendar) and Gippsland qualifying meets will be included in results collected.
Selection for the Country 7 – 10 Encouragement Team will be based on times from Saturday, 6th March 2010 (GSI Gippsland Championships) to Sunday, 17th October 2010.
Selection for the Country Inter District Team will be based on times from Saturday 30th January 2010 (GSI Meet 10 Sale) to Sunday, 30th January 2011.
The Program and Selection Committee will consider both Long Course and Short Course times for the selection of the 7 –1 0 Country Encouragement Team and Long Course times for the Country Inter District Team. However the final decision will be left up to the discretion of the Committee.
Gippsland has a proud history of achievement in both the 7-10 Competition and the Inter District Competition. It is an honour and a privilege to be included in the District 21 Teams.
