GSI BY-LAWS
J. Swimming Rules General.
J1. At any Association swim meet the competitors shall be under the control of a club official, who will be responsible for the
behaviour and punctuality of their competitors.
J2. Any competitor swimming in any Association meet that limits individual entries to a pre set number may not discount any entry in which a disqualification has been given.
J3. In any Association swim meet other than Championships eight (8) year old team events can be mixed 3xl or 2x2.
J4. In any Association swim meet other than Championships eight (8) year old medley team events can be swum in any of the following ways:-
Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle.
Backstroke, Breaststroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle.
Backstroke, Butterfly, Butterfly, Freestyle.
J5. A swimmer's age will be calculated on the day of the swim meet except as in By-Law J6.
J6. For the Gippsland Championships a swimmer age shall be calculated from the first day of the championships.
J7. A swimmer shall not swim out of his/her age group other than open events, for open meets, handicap meets, distance meets, inter-district selection meets and Championship meets except in By-Law G9.
J8. Each team entered in an inter-club competition shall be given a restriction as to the number of individual events a competitor may enter.
J9. When the pennant system is used with more than one grade, relegation shall be used as follows:- Clubs at the bottom of the ladder in "A" and "B" grades respectively be relegated to "B" and "C" grades. Clubs on top of the ladder be promoted to "A" and "B grades respectively.
J10. When more than eight clubs are competing in Nyalinga all clubs will be graded into two (2) groups. The grading to be based on the clubs previous years Nyalinga results, with the top team of Division two (2) promoted to Division one (1) and the bottom team of Division one (1) relegated to Division two (2).
J11. If at any swim meet there are empty lanes they will remain vacant and no club may use them to allow extra swimmers to compete or to train.
J12. That second claim swimmers can swim in Gippsland for Gippsland clubs, under the following conditions:-
(a) If the swimmers parents address is within District 21 but the swimmer is living outside District 2l, due to study or work commitments and is a registered member of a club outside District 21.
(b) If the swimmers parents address is outside of District 21 but the swimmer is living within District 21, due to study or work requirements and is a registered member of a club outside of District 21.
(c) The application is to be approved by the District Executive prior to competition and all club secretaries are to be notified by the Association secretary.
J13. When a Handicap meet is swum it shall be conducted as outlined in Appendix "F".
J14. If in the opinion of the host club executive the weather- is too inclement to hold the swim meet a member of the executive shall contact the President of the Association four (4) hours prior to the starting time and advise of the need to cancel. If the President is not available try another member of the G.S.I. Executive.
The Association President on advice shall decide if the swim meet is to be cancelled and ensure that all competing clubs and the Chief Referee are advised of the cancellation by phone call three(3) hours prior to the starting time.
The President of the Association or deputy will inform the Associations Publicity Officer who will advise the media.
Any official or club member who is in doubt of the cancellation should make contact with their own club first, the host club second and the Association last.
J15. That the Open/interclub competition be divided into “A” and “B: divisions and scored as if it was one division.
